Reports from UNICEF (January 2022) and World Bank (June 2022) both indicate that Nigeria has the highest number of children out of school in the world.
For a country that has such a big impact in Africa’s political and economic stage, this is grim news indeed. While the national government has increased the percentage of its annual budget for education from 5.7% in 2021 to 7.2% in 2022, it is still way behind the internationally recommended guideline of 15-20%.*

On Friday, January 14, board member Elaine Chagnon presented to the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton via Zoom. Her powerpoint presentation focused on the work completed during the 2021 year. While still unable to travel to Nigeria, Africa Education PArtnership was able to continue work, albeit at a slower pace, than in the previous years.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our dear friend and board member, Rev. Beth Frank, on January 21, 2022. Beth had an extraordinary impact on many, serving as an attorney, pastor to many churches, and public servant working with numerous organizations and non-profit groups.

Africa Education Partnership members believe that schools need to be places where children and teachers feel safe and supported. In such an environment, learning can more readily take place. Given the present conditions and challenges in Nigeria, this is no small feat. However, every step we take is considered a victory, no matter the size of the project.
