A joint team from both Africa Education Partnership (AEP) and Kateri Medical Services, is in the planning stages for a spring trip to Nigeria. Two board members from AEP, Peter Dewberry and Elaine Chagnon are part of this team. The plans include visits to our original project in Gusau and then to the Kafanchan area to assess progress of our current work and assessing next steps.
On Saturday October 5, 2019 the full Africa Education Board met with Bishop Dogo and his wife Nana in Shelton, Connecticut. All of the AEP Connecticut Board members were present, except for one who joined via phone from Virginia Beach, Our two Ohio board members traveled from Akron to be present.
The literacy manual Recipe for Reading was used by Elaine Chagnon in a teaching seminar for the teachers of Kafanchan Nursery/Primary School. The aim of the seminar was to enhance the skills in teaching literacy to young students. Pads of special writing paper to go with the manual were also brought. These materials were purchased through a grant from Companions in Mission, Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut. Recipe for Reading presents early literacy skills in a prescribed sequence and stresses sounds, visual cues, spelling, and correct formation of letters.
