During the fall of 2020, discussion resumed with our partners in Gusau regarding the construction of dormitories for Graceland international School. Dormitories are a necessity for secondary schools, encouraging students from farther-reaching areas to continue their education past the compulsory grade 6 level. It took several months to come up with blueprints for a single story building, kitchen, and dining hall that could be built at an affordable cost. In addition, the structure had to be designed for future expansion. Our partners requested that the first dormitory constructed would house girls. The initial phase will provide for 42 young women.
Total cost for the initial phase, including an additional well for increased water demands, came in at $76,000. A dollar-for-dollar challenge was posted and together with grants and donations, the total amount has been raised.
