A regular donor to Africa Education Partnership (AEP) has generously given money for sports and playground equipment to make sure that the students of Graceland International School have the opportunities to develop physically and mentally. We at AEP recognize the importance of sports and play in the overall development of our students. Physical activity is an important component for the overall health and well being of young people. Sport and games help to enhance a young person’s mental and physical growth, developing character, energy and strength. Regular play builds a spirit of friendliness and tolerance among children, developing a team spirit, and mental and physical toughness. Regular physical activity along with a healthy diet fights lethargy, mental exhaustion and promotes a sense of all-round well being. By getting involved in sport and play young people learn values like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice, and accountability -values which they will carry with them throughout their lives. Not a luxury.
For all the above reasons, providing opportunities for play and organized physical activity is not a luxury but an essential part of a young person’s education. We wish to thank our donor who recognizes the value of sports and play in education. The first items to be purchased will be more playground equipment for the Graceland primary school, along with soccer balls, volley balls, and nets.
