Thurs - 19th - Return to Kaduna

After breakfast in Gusau, we met again with the Bishop and the Diocesan School Committee to discuss with them what we planned to do on our return to the USA, assuring them that we would:

1. Establish a governing board for Africa Education Partnership (AEP)
2. Set up a conduit for the transfer of funds from the USA to Nigeria, with all the necessary checks and balances to ensure accountability.
3. Formally constitute and register AEP as a 501(c) 3 non-profit charity according to US law.
4. Begin the process of making the mission of AEP known as widely as possible.
5. Begin raising funds to start on the construction of the Graceland Internatioal School.

By mid-morning were packed and ready for the long and tiring trip back to Kaduna. Once one is some distance out of Gusau the road to Kaduna deteriorates rapidly, it is rutted and full of potholes, it passes through small villages, with the hazards of goats, sheep and donkeys slowing progress. Traffic is nerve racking. We passed into Katsina state and through the town of Funtua, before entering Kaduna state, where we passed through the city of Zaria, an ancient center of learning and the seat of the Emir of Zaria. Before leaving Zaria we passed by the campus of Amadu Bello University, one of Nigeria’s premier universities.

We finally arrived in Kaduna in time for supper.
