We at Africa Education Partnership are equally overjoyed at the completion of our first renovation project in Kafanchan. The Kogum River Nursery/Primary School was in a very serious state of disrepair. There is still a lot of work to do at this school- one more classroom building requires renovation and new construction of a classroom block is needed.

Africa Education Partnership’s newest project is the renovation of a four classroom block at Kogum River Nursery/Primary School in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Nigeria. AEP began a new Partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna State in late 2018. Board member Elaine Chagnon and her husband visited Kafanchan in October 2018. After visiting these schools it was clear that the Kogum River Nursery/Primary School was most in need of renovation. The board of AEP voted to send US$9,000 to renovate a block of four classrooms at the school.
On February 22, AEP board member Elaine Chagnon made the trip to Akron, Ohio to meet with board members Angela Dimezza and Paul Frank. At dinner on Friday night, lively discussion took place outlining plans to move ahead with the school renovations in the Kafanchan region of Nigeria. They were joined by Paul’s daughter, Rev. Elizabeth Frank and Angela’s husband Peter.
Packed and Shipped
On November 9, 2019, AEP board members Peter Dewberry and Elaine Chagnon drove to the Bronx, New York to meet with Rev. Ben Nnaji of St. Edmund’s Church. Waiting there were three shipping barrels waiting to be loaded with supplies. Thanks to Rev. Nnaji, the barrels were loaded on a container ship. The teachers and students in Kafanchan schools teach and study under very difficult circumstances, with few resources and poor conditions. The attached photos show a teacher working with dedication, teaching a class of eager students. There are not even enough books for every student to have their own. The students are typical of so many Nigerian children, eager to learn, despite the obstacles that they face.
