Kafanchan School is located on the site of the Cathedral and has made use of some of the cathedral’s old buildings.
The Nursery/Primary School was built in the early 1990’s and has several classroom blocks full of students. The secondary school took over some of the original cathedral buildings constructed in the 1930’s. These include a hostel and bathrooms, now used for boarding students and a chapel, now used as an examination hall. A separate structure serves as a kitchen. |

Phase One - Research The Second Two Schools At The Gidan Waya Site Gidan Waya is the newest site in the Kafanchan region, consisting of a Nursery/Primary School and a Secondary School. The site was built during 2011-12 after trouble near the Kafanchan School between rival groups. There was violence in the area and townspeople were afraid to send their children back to school even after things settled. Bishop Markus had just been appointed and started the new site at Gidan Waya.
The school has a science lab and hostel for students. There is an examination hall under construction so that students can sit for their exams. There is a clinic adjacent to the school as well. |

Phase One - Research Dec 2018 - Kogum River Nursery / Primary School Phase Two - Renovation Work Feb 2019 - Kogum River Nursery / Primary School, Kafanchan, Kaduna State Mar 2019 - Progress at Kogum River This is the most rural of the three remaining sites and was by far in the worst condition- the money simply does not stretch that far. It is located about 1 ½ hours out of Kafanchan center. The site was developed around 1972 and is a Nursery/Primary School only. There is talk of making this a secondary school in the future.
There are 2 buildings in poor shape. One of them has been recently renovated by AEP. A second will be renovated in the future. There is also a need for a new construction of three classrooms to handle the growing population. In addition, a well has been provided and is under construction, thanks to the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton. Bathroom will hopefully be built in the future. |

A second rural school, this is located about an hour from Kafanchan. Built around 1970, it, too, is a Nursery/Primary School only. There are two standing buildings with a third under construction (walls are up but no roof). One of the buildings is made of corrugated metal and is extremely hot inside. There is no well or bathrooms. |
The last rural school, it is a Nursery/Primary school only. It was constructed around 1948. An additional classroom block is needed along with a well and bathrooms.
